Day 1 Hong Kong - Tuesday 5 July

City Tour included a Sampan ride to a fishing village - very smelly. Very interesting. I spent most of the 5 hour tour with a retired teacher from Ballarat. She and I were very much alike. Must be the teacher in us. We had fun. Saw the rich and the poor areas. We drove from Kowloon under the harbour tunnel to Hong Kong Is. Wealthier live over there. Drove up the mountains. Beautiful lookouts - Mt Victoria Peak. Rode back down by tram - sort of like the Scenic Railway at the Blue Mountains. Then Stanley markets for a spot of shopping. We were told how lucky we were because it is the typhoon, rainy season. It was pouring apparently up until 3 days ago. Good feng shui.

Evening cruise of Hong Kong harbour on Junk (sailing boat), includes dinner. And what a dinner - seafood smorgasbord including oyster mornay. In a revolving restaurant very high up with 360 degree views beginning in daylight and ending with the city all lit up. Then to the Temple St evening markets. I bought new shoes and sunglasses. Then we were taken for our 2 hour cruise - unlimited drinks whilst on board - anything you like. I stayed with 5 other people all evening who I shared the dinner table with. 2 couples from Qld - very nice dinky di and a single woman from Coogee who loved the company. We shopped together at the markets and we enjoyed the cruise and walk back to our motels. A wonderful day and evening.
